Unit 6400 is a 26-bed behavioral health unit, including 3 medical beds and specializes in managing behavioral health crises. As a Patient Care Nursing Assistant (PCNA) on the team, you will perform various tasks, ensuring patients receive frequent attention and observation as needed. This is a hands-on role that requires a present, attentive and patient caregiver who is willing to learn new medical technologies and thrive in a fast-paced environment. On this team, you will gain a wide variety of skills you can use in advanced positions or other departments within the Cleveland Clinic system.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED
- Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross upon hire or within new hire period
- Prior job or educational experience providing basic computer knowledge and skills
Nice To Haves
- State Tested Nursing Assistant (STNA)
- One year of recent acute care experience
- Military experience as a Hospital Corpsman (HM), Combat Medic (68W) or Medical Service Technician (4N0X1) will be considered
Responsibilities
- Prepare units, patient rooms and patient beds for receiving patient admission, returning surgical patients, transfer or emergencies.
- Provide and document assigned care, such as bathing, changing/refreshing bed linens, dressing/undressing, back rubs, etc.
- Take and document the patient's temperature, pulse, respirations, blood pressure, pulse oximetry, weight and height.
- Perform treatment procedures, such as venous blood draws, enemas, application of ice and heat packs, non-sterile compresses, skin preps, setting up oxygen equipment, bed scale weights, setting up overhead trapeze and Buck’s traction and removing urinary foley catheters.
- Prepare patients for meals, assist in feeding patients if necessary and distribute water and other nourishments according to patient needs in compliance with physician orders.
- Assist with pre-operative and post-operative care, such as turning and positioning patients with proper body mechanics, applying/utilizing special equipment and ambulating the patient as directed in a safe, prescribed manner.
- Assist and accompany patients during admission, transfer and discharge.
- Perform hourly safety rounds, anticipate patient needs and respond to patient call lights promptly.
- Collect, properly label and transport specimens to proper area.
- Assist in keeping patient rooms in order, reporting equipment that is out of order, cleaning equipment (as assigned) and mandatory inventory and distributing unit linen and supplies.
- Document patient care in the electronic medical record.
- Complete ongoing competency requirements, education programs and mandatory training to maintain certification and/or licensure.
