About The Position

Cleveland Clinic Mercy Hospital’s 5B Orthopaedic Unit cares for planned orthopaedic postoperative patients, including hip and knee replacements and spine and neck surgeries, as well as patients with orthopaedic injuries and trauma who do not require critical care or are ready to transfer from the ICU. The unit works collaboratively with orthopaedic surgeons, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, physical therapists, occupational therapists, and the trauma team.

As a Patient Care Nurse Assistant (PCNA), you will coordinate with fellow caregivers to create a welcoming, healing, and warm environment for patients. You will provide or assist with patient care under RN supervision. The role offers opportunities for educational advancement, skills development, and career growth within Cleveland Clinic.

The schedule is days, 7:00 a.m. to 7:30 p.m., including rotating weekends and holidays. The position is at Mercy Hospital in Canton, Ohio.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association or American Red Cross; candidates without certification must obtain it during the new-hire period. Nursing students must have BLS certification upon hire.
• Military experience as a Hospital Corpsman (HM), Combat Medic (68W), or Medical Service Technician (4N0X1) will be considered.

Nice To Haves

• State Tested Nursing Assistant (STNA).
• Current nursing student.

Responsibilities

• Provide or assist with patient care under the supervision of an RN, including vital signs, weights, personal care and activities of daily living, transfers and transport, pulse oximetry, point-of-care testing, dressing changes, applying external monitoring devices, and removing urinary Foley catheters.
• Report abnormal findings or changes in patients’ physical, mental, or emotional conditions to an RN.
• Help keep patients’ rooms clean and orderly.
