Mercy Hospital’s Same Day Surgery Unit handles less complicated surgeries than those that require an overnight hospital stay. A high percentage of these patients have their surgery and go home the same day. The Same Day Surgery team is known for their close-knit team and enjoyable work environment. As a Patient Care Nurse Assistant (PCNA) on the team, you will coordinate with fellow caregivers to create a welcoming, healing and warm environment for patients. As one of the first people patients and families encounter, you will help set a calm and reassuring tone during what can be an anxious time. By assisting with check-in, guiding patients through the process and communicating needs to the care team, this position helps improve patient flow, reduce stress and ensure patients feel respected, informed and cared for from the moment they arrive. This position offers the ability to pursue educational advancement, higher positions and skills development courses offered by Cleveland Clinic. In this role, you have an excellent opportunity to start your nursing career and work in a supportive and caring healthcare setting. A caregiver in this position works days from 6:00AM – 2:30PM.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross - If you do not hold this certification, you must obtain it during your new hire period
  • Nursing students: Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross
  • Nursing students who have recently completed a minimum of one clinical rotation as part of an accredited nursing school program may substitute the clinical rotation for the required experience
  • Military experience as a Hospital Corpsman (HM), Combat Medic (68W) or Medical Service Technician (4N0X1) will be considered

Nice To Haves

  • State Tested Nursing Assistant (STNA) certification

Responsibilities

  • Provide or assist with patient care under the supervision of an RN. Patient care may include vital signs, weight, assisting patients with personal care and activities of daily living, patient transfers/transport, pulse oximetry, point of care testing, dressing changes, applying external monitoring devices and removing urinary Foley catheter.
  • Report abnormal findings or changes in physical, mental and emotional conditions to an RN.
  • Assist with keeping patients’ rooms clean and orderly.
