About The Position

Cleveland Clinic Weston Hospital is seeking a Patient Care Nurse Assistant (PCNA) for its combined Surgical Intensive Care Unit (SICU) and Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU). This unit provides care for critically ill patients following surgery, particularly those with cardiovascular, thoracic, or vascular conditions, and supports patients with perioperative management needs, post-operative complications, and those requiring specialized intensive care after surgery. As a PCNA on this team, you will coordinate with fellow caregivers to create a welcoming, healing, and warm environment for patients. This position offers opportunities for educational advancement, higher positions, and skills development courses offered by Cleveland Clinic. It is an excellent opportunity to start a nursing career in a supportive and caring healthcare setting. This is a regular PRN position, with caregivers working shifts varying between 7:00 a.m. – 7:30 p.m. or 7:00 p.m. – 7:30 a.m.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross upon or within new hire period
  • Nursing students: Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross prior to hire

Nice To Haves

  • Graduate of an approved program for nursing assistants or previous hospital training
  • Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA)
  • Six months of experience in an acute care hospital setting
  • One year of patient-care experience
  • Customer service, rehab or prior retail experience

Responsibilities

  • Assist nursing caregivers, promote patient comfort and carry out nursing orders.
  • Transport patients by wheelchair, bed or stretcher from the department/unit.
  • Conduct EKG and phlebotomy duties.
  • Attend to patient and family needs and problems.
  • Assist patients with activities of daily living, such as dressing, bathing, toileting and hygiene.
  • Report pertinent information regarding patient condition to appropriate nursing staff.
  • Assist patients with tray set up and feeding.
  • Restock supplies daily and order supplies from Central Supply.
  • Document care provided in the medical record.
  • Collect and transport specimens.
  • Provide RNs/LPNs with accurate and timely intake/output data, vital signs, blood glucose results and other data, note changes from prior measurement and communicate accordingly.
  • Respond to call lights within five minutes or communicate inability to do so.
  • Report patient needs to an RN/LPN immediately.
  • Assist in the removal of equipment (I.e. IV pumps, commodes, PAS) in preparation for room cleaning.
