The Heart, Vascular & Thoracic Institute cares for patients with a variety of heart, vascular and thoracic diseases and provides the highest level of patient care, innovative treatments and a welcoming environment to all. J61 and J63 are 24-bed cardiovascular telemetry units dedicated to the care of patients recovering from advanced cardiac and cardiothoracic procedures. These fast-paced units provide nurses with exceptional opportunities to develop specialized skills while caring for patients following coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG), minimally invasive and robotic heart surgery, ventricular assist device (VAD) implantation, valve repair or replacement, aneurysm repair, and other complex cardiovascular procedures. The patient population also includes individuals admitted with angina, myocardial infarction, heart failure, arrhythmias, and those undergoing pacemaker or implantable cardioverter-defibrillator (ICD) placement or removal. The Patient Care Nursing Assistant (PCNA) provides compassionate, hands-on patient care under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN), supporting a safe and healing environment through skills validated by training and competency assessments. J63 is a busy 24-bed cardiovascular stepdown unit specializing in post-open heart, surgical, and ventricular assist device patients. This unit offers a collaborative, fast-paced setting dedicated to exceptional patient-centered care. A caregiver in this position works nights, from 7:00pm—7:30am. Rotating weekends and holidays are required

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross within new hiring period
  • Military experience as a Hospital Corpsman (HM), Combat Medic (68W) or Medical Service Technician (4N0X1) will be considered

  • State Tested Nursing Assistant (STNA)

Responsibilities

  • Provide or assist with patient care under the supervision of an RN.
  • Patient care may include vital signs, weight, assisting patients with personal care and activities of daily living, patient transfers/transport, pulse oximetry, point of care testing, dressing changes, applying external monitoring devices and removing urinary Foley catheter.
  • Report abnormal findings or changes in physical, mental and emotional conditions to an RN.
  • Assist with keeping patients’ rooms clean and orderly.
