About The Position

Adventist HealthCare's Outpatient Orthopedic Practice seeks to hire an experienced Patient Care Coordinator for our Orthopedic Surgery location who will embrace our mission to extend God’s care through the ministry of physical, mental, and spiritual healing.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience in a physician practice, orthopedic practice, surgical coordination, care coordination, or related healthcare setting required
  • Certified Medical Assistant (CMA), Registered Medical Assistant (RMA), or equivalent certification required
  • Active American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required

Nice To Haves

  • Associate degree in Health Sciences, Medical Assisting, Nursing, Healthcare Administration, or related field preferred
  • Experience working with total joint replacement patients.
  • Experience with surgical scheduling and authorizations.
  • Experience with quality improvement initiatives and patient education programs.
  • Experience utilizing Epic or other electronic medical record systems.
  • Orthopedic or Surgical Practice certification or experience.
  • Certified Orthopedic Technologist (preferred but not required).
  • Knowledge of orthopedic procedures, particularly joint replacement surgery.
  • Understanding of pre-operative and post-operative patient care processes.
  • Strong patient education and coaching skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • Ability to build positive relationships with patients, physicians, and interdisciplinary teams.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple patients and priorities simultaneously.
  • Detail-oriented with strong follow-through.
  • Proficiency with EMR systems and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ability to analyze reports and track program outcomes.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary contact for total joint replacement patients throughout the surgical journey. Guide patients through pre-operative, peri-operative, and post-operative processes.
  • Coordinate appointments related to surgery, medical clearance, pre-admission testing, rehabilitation, and follow-up care
  • Manage patient referrals, scheduling initial appointments, obtains treatment/visit authorizations, medical documentation, and communicates with insurance carriers, adjusters, attorneys, providers, and patients
  • Responsible for post-operative pain management in collaboration with the surgeon's pain management protocol.
  • Provide educational materials and answer patient questions regarding the surgical process.
