About The Position

The Patient Care Assistant (PCA)-Dialysis Apheresis Resource Team (DART) plays a key role in supporting the dialysis department in maintaining all dialysis machines in proper working condition. This role follows established policies and manufacturer guidelines in cleaning, disinfecting, and sterilizing machines. The PCA ensures that machines and supplies are delivered to all hospitals under the Loma Linda University Medical Center license within a designated timeframe based on patient schedules. They also ensure that machines are in working condition and are not due for maintenance, and that supply carts are stocked with necessary supplies for scheduled treatments. The position involves maintaining accurate logs on cleaning and disinfection of each machine, participating in quality control activities, and performing follow-up testing as directed by the Supervisor – Dialysis Equipment. The PCA must meet qualifications and competencies as defined in the department-specific Plan for Providing Care, and participate in training, educational activities, and staff meetings, assisting with the orientation and training of other personnel as requested. Other duties as needed will also be performed.

Requirements

  • Successful completion of an approved Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) program or completion of School of Nursing Fundamentals course required.
  • Certified Hemodialysis Technician (CHT) may be considered in lieu of CNA program or completion of School of Nursing Fundamentals course.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association required.
  • Demonstrates competencies in fundamentals of patient care, cleaning and disinfecting and running of dialysis and apheresis machines and knowledge of scope of practice for unlicensed assistive personnel healthcare providers.
  • Able to read, write legibly and speak in English (and Spanish preferred) with professional quality.
  • Use computer, printer and software programs necessary to the position, e.g., Word, Outlook, organization electronic medical record, event reporting program.
  • Operate and troubleshoot patient care equipment required for this position.
  • Perform basic direct and indirect patient care activities using proper body mechanics and safety precautions.

Nice To Haves

  • Spanish language proficiency preferred.
  • Minimum six months of experience as a nursing assistant or dialysis technician preferred.
