Under the supervision of an RN, performs basic patient care and other related technical and clinical support activities. Requirements

  • Electrocardiogram Competency (Required)
  • BLS American Heart E-Card (BLS AHA ECARD) - American Heart Association (AMERICAN HEART)
  • BLS American Heart RQI E-Card (BLS AHA-RQI ECARD) - American Heart Association (AMERICAN HEART)
  • BLS Cert American Heart_non ecard (BLS AHA) - American Heart Association (AMERICAN HEART)
  • BLS Certification Grace (BLS GRACE) - Employee Grace Period for Essential Credential (GRACE)
  • BLS Cert Red Cross (BLS RC) - Red Cross (RED CROSS)
  • Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.
  • Three (3) months of patient care experience demonstrating the ability to perform basic patient care or certification of completion from formal training program required.
  • EKG and phlebotomy competencies are required within six (6) months of hire date.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborates with peers to improve efficiency, safety and patient experience.
  • Takes an active role in promoting system and department policies related to Monitor Technician roles and responsibilities.
  • Performs continual and simultaneous surveillance of multiple monitors.
  • Acts as a mentor and resource for new staff and students.
  • Reports abnormal or change in patient's telemetry monitoring to nursing staff or immediate supervisor or designated chain of command.
  • Activates emergency response and rapid response for lethal arrhythmia and cardiac arrest.
  • Prioritizes changing patient situations using critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Attaches electrode to patient’s bodies to record electrical impulses from the heart to perform continuous ECG Monitoring.
  • Documents the electrocardiograph tracings of patients on telemetry monitors.
  • Updates patients’ records with all readings taken from the heart monitor or EKGs.
  • Identifies and corrects for artifacts.
