Patient Care Associate I (PCA I) - Medical Unit
About The Position
Glens Falls Hospital is looking for students, healthcare workers, and entry level candidates with a background or interest in the healthcare field to join our team as a Patient Care Associate (PCA). If you are an individual who loves caring for and supporting others, this is a perfect position for you! Come grow your skills in healthcare and gain clinical experience working directly with patients! As PCA in our Medical Unit, you will care for adult and geriatric patients with a wide variety of acute and chronic medical conditions, including respiratory disease, heart failure, diabetes-related complications, sepsis, and other complex medical diagnoses requiring inpatient hospitalization. Working alongside RNs and experienced interdisciplinary team, you’ll provide compassionate, patient-centered care while gaining clinical experience in a collaborative and supportive environment.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED equivalent
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Passion for caring and supporting others
- Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification (can be earned after hire)
Nice To Haves
- Patient care experience
- Medical terminology knowledge
Responsibilities
- Perform all aspects of first-level patient care including promoting hygiene and mobility
- Measure and record patients’ vitals such as temperature and blood pressure
- Responds to patient/family needs and requests
- May assist and support physicians/nurses during routine procedures and treatments
- Report all observations, changes in patient condition to responsible RN for timely, appropriate evaluation and response
- Prepare hospital rooms
- Change patients’ bed sheets, pillows and turning or repositioning patients in their beds
- Deliver meals to patients and assist with feeding
- Help patients dress and/or assist with toileting needs
- Bathe patients
- Listen to patients’ concerns, record them and report them to a nurse
- Patient companion when needed
