About The Position

The Operating Room Patient Care Assistant (PCA) provides vital support to the surgical team by maintaining a clean, safe, and well-stocked operating environment while assisting with turnovers and transport needs. The PCA works collaboratively with nurses, surgical technologists, and other perioperative staff to promote patient safety, efficiency, and positive surgical outcomes. This is a full-time position with varied shifts Monday-Friday, no weekends and no holidays.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED Equivalent required or proof of higher education
  • BLS for the Healthcare Provider by 60 days after hire required

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience in a hospital or surgical services environment preferred

Responsibilities

  • Reports patient safety concerns or incidents utilizing the hospital’s occurrence reporting system.
  • Identifies and communicates actual and potential risks to patient safety.
  • Achieves and maintains unit-specific initial and ongoing competencies.
  • Participates in the professional development and training of peers, colleagues, and students.
  • Adheres to hospital and departmental policies, procedures, and performance standards.
  • Performs ongoing inventory management, including restocking, unboxing, and organizing supplies.
  • Stocks the Core, sub-sterile areas, and operating rooms to ensure readiness for procedures.
  • Cleans and prepares operating rooms efficiently and thoroughly, following infection control and regulatory standards.
  • Dates and restocks irrigation bags and containers as required.
  • Assists with room setup, ensuring correct bed positioning and proper equipment setup and readiness for use.
  • Follows all regulatory guidelines for proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and cleaning materials.
  • Assists with routine regulatory checks, including weekly eyewash station maintenance, formaldehyde level checks, and closed waste management system maintenance.
  • Maintains a clean, organized, and uncluttered environment in the OR.
  • Assists with safe patient transfers.
  • Provides comfort measures such as issuing warm blankets.
  • Locates and prepares beds for patients admitted post-surgery.
  • Ensures clean linens are available and in place on stretchers and beds.
  • Provides assistance and support for pediatric patients as appropriate.
  • Collaborates with the surgical team to coordinate care and ensure optimal patient outcomes.
  • Supports other perioperative areas by training and delegating tasks as directed by leadership.
