About The Position

The Patient Care Assistant (PCA), under the direction of a registered nurse, is responsible for direct patient care considering age-specific, developmental, cultural, and spiritual needs. They assist in establishing and maintaining a patient care environment that is clean, safe, and conducive to patient/family well-being, including concepts of relationship-based care. Training is provided to prepare colleagues for success. The PCA assists patients in completing ADLs including: bathing, showering, toileting, positioning, turning, transferring, ambulation using assistive devices, and with feeding and menu selection. They are responsible for recording patient information and required data in appropriate areas to meet documentation requirements. The Inpatient Rehab units at Chelsea Hospital care for patients requiring comprehensive inpatient rehabilitation after traumatic brain injuries, cerebral vascular accidents, amputations, debility, poly trauma, or spinal cord injuries. Inpatient Rehab is a collaborative program between Chelsea Hospital and University of Michigan Health, staffed by a team of award-winning U-M Health rehab physicians and Chelsea Hospital nurses, therapists, and specialists. The Inpatient Rehabilitation unit has recently expanded to a 40-bed unit and is now accepting higher acuity patients. As part of our commitment to excellence in patient care, we are proud to be participating in the Spinal Cord Injury (SCI) Model System.

Requirements

  • High school diploma, GED, or a minimum of 18 years of age.
  • Recent experience desired.
  • Ability to lift up to 35 pounds without assistance, lifting greater than 35 pounds using mechanical assistance.

Responsibilities

  • Assist patient in completing ADLs including: Bathing, showering, toileting, positioning, turning, transferring, ambulation using assistive devices and with feeding and menu selection.
  • Record patient information and required data in appropriate areas in order to meet documentation requirements.
