About The Position

The Patient Care Assistant, under the supervision and direction of a registered nurse, assists in the treatment and care of patients in the pre-procedure and post-procedure phases of their treatment. This role involves assisting with patient intake for surgery, cleaning and preparing patient bays, stocking patient bays, transporting patients to vehicles for discharge, ordering supplies, and helping with the flow of the daily surgical schedule. The position requires a tech to assist in the Pre and Post operative areas as well as the operating room, supporting a busy surgery center with day-to-day needs, turnovers, and preparing and discharging patients for surgery. The ideal candidate must possess great communication and interpersonal skills and be willing to be flexible to the demands of the operating room.

Requirements

  • High School graduate or equivalent.
  • One year patient care experience preferably in a hospital setting.
  • Current Basic Cardiac Life Support Certification.
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
  • Ability to write simple correspondence.
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
  • Ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's.
  • Ability to perform operations using units of American money, weight measurement, volume, and distance.
  • Functions within the position description and within the scope of employee/patient relationship.
  • Demonstrates the ability to utilize recognized channels of communication.
  • Demonstrates the ability to maintain good interpersonal relationships with patients, co-workers, and other health team members.
