About The Position

The Patient Care Assistant works under the direction of licensed personnel to help patients with activities of daily living, including bathing, dressing, eating, and toileting. The role also includes measuring and documenting vital signs and other patient information, helping patients reposition and move, and reporting health concerns to nurses. This is an onsite, night-shift position at The Brigham and Women's Hospital, with 36 scheduled hours per week.

Requirements

Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions.
Knowledge of medical terminology.
Strong patient/customer service skills.
Ability to lift up to 35 pounds.
Proficiency with computer skills for working efficiently with electronic medical records.

Nice To Haves

High school diploma or equivalent.
Basic Life Support (BLS) credential.
Nationally certified Medical Assistant credential.
Nationally certified Nursing Assistant/Patient Care Technician credential.
New Hampshire Licensed Nursing Assistant (LNA) credential.
0–1 year of experience working in patient care or elder care.

Responsibilities

Measure and document vital signs, height, weight, intake, and output accurately and within the established time frame or as requested.
Complete required documentation in the medical record.
Interact effectively with patients and their families.
Assist patients with hygiene and activities of daily living, including bathing, dressing, toileting, and eating.
Help patients turn and reposition in bed and move between a bed and wheelchair as needed.
Listen to patients' health concerns and report them to nurses.
