This position assists assigned patients with activities of daily living (ADL) according to their treatment plan, policies, procedures, unit routines, and protocol. The Patient Care Assistant will observe, report, and document changes in the patient’s physical and behavioral status, ADLs, and other tasks as assigned to the licensed nurse or Lead CNA in a timely and accurate manner. They will utilize therapeutic interventions that reflect knowledge of Therapeutic Options unit routines and rules, and patient treatment guidelines. The role also involves escorting patients to other departments, meals, and outside of the hospital per protocols and procedure, performing assignments according to policy and procedures, providing Constant Supportive Observation (CSO) as assigned, and participating in therapeutic activities and/or groups for patients. Assignments will be performed utilizing principles of the Recovery Model. Operationally, the Patient Care Assistant will follow and complete assignments in a timely manner, reporting on assignments to the licensed nurse or Lead CNA as required. They will participate in activities that improve patient care as directed, accurately complete required documentation within established time frames, and assist with admissions, discharges, and transfers as assigned. Compliance with established policy CHPP 12-03.10, Employee Reliability Standards is also required. For education and skill development, the Patient Care Assistant must attend all mandatory in-services, complete five hours of in-service to meet learning needs and developmental plans, and share learned knowledge and skills with staff members as appropriate.
