About The Position

Capital Health is seeking a Patient Care Assistant for a full-time, night shift position. This role is crucial in providing quality patient care within Capital Health's network of facilities. The Patient Care Assistant will perform various essential functions to support patient safety, personal care, and basic medical procedures under the supervision of a Registered Nurse or Physician. Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED.
  • AHA Heartsaver AED.
  • Non-Licensed must obtain before end of orientation period.
  • Proficient in English, verbal and written communication.

Nice To Haves

  • Six months of Nursing Assistant/Health Aid experience or currently enrolled in LPN/RN nursing program.
  • 4 hours of Stroke related Continuing Education contact hours annually if assigned to: Critical Care, Intermediate Care Unit, Emergency Department, Neuro Units, Cardiology Inpatient at Hopewell, Peds ED, PACU, Interventional Radiology, CNI, Observation
  • Successful completion of the Capital Health UAP Training program within 90 days of employment.

Responsibilities

  • Performs phlebotomy, glucometer testing and EKG responsibilities.
  • Provides for safety aspects of patient care (assists with patient restraints, follows fall precautions, responds to emergency situations).
  • Provides personal care (bathing, mouth care, evening care, incontinence care to patient).
  • Applies basic dressings, slings, splints, antiembolism and sequential pressure stockings.
  • Collects specimens such as stool, urine and sputum.
  • Empties and cleans ostomy and other device bags.
  • Provides for nutrition of patients. Feeds, monitors tube feedings, delivers nourishment, counts calories.
  • Assists with post mortem care.
  • Assists with CPR under the direction/supervision of a Registered Nurse or Physician.
  • Stocks supplies and maintains a well cleaned, organized environment.
