The Patient Care Assistant is responsible for providing nursing care to patients under the supervision and direction of a registered nurse. This role involves assisting with daily living activities within a hospital setting, performing light housekeeping in patient rooms and common areas, and providing clinical patient care that does not require a nursing license. The Patient Care Assistant will also assist with call lights, phone operations, orienting patient families/visitors, maintaining stocked patient care areas, and documenting all patient care interactions in electronic medical records. They will review and discuss patient care plans with the assigned Registered Nurse, maintain efficient patient flow by monitoring room availability and patient intakes/discharges, and clean patient rooms after discharge, properly disposing of used items and processing reusable items for sterilization. The role requires demonstrating knowledge of correct patient safety practices and maintaining responsible, professional behavior in a team setting.
