About The Position
The Patient Care Assistant (PCA) on the Medical-Surgical unit at Chelsea Hospital provides direct patient care under the supervision of a registered nurse. This role is crucial in maintaining a safe, clean, and supportive environment for patients and their families, focusing on relationship-based care. The unit specializes in post-operative surgical care, telemetry, stroke care, chronic pain management, and patient education. Training is provided to ensure colleagues are well-prepared for their responsibilities, which include assisting patients with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) such as bathing, toileting, positioning, transferring, ambulation, and feeding. Accurate recording of patient information and data is also a key responsibility.
Requirements
- High school diploma, GED, or a minimum of 18 years of age.
- Ability to lift up to 35 pounds without assistance; lifting greater than 35 pounds using mechanical assistance.
- Recent experience desired.
Responsibilities
- Provide direct patient care under the direction of a registered nurse, considering age-specific, developmental, cultural, and spiritual needs.
- Assist in establishing and maintaining a clean, safe, and conducive patient care environment.
- Assist patients in completing ADLs, including bathing, showering, toileting, positioning, turning, transferring, ambulation using assistive devices, and feeding with menu selection.
- Record patient information and required data in appropriate areas to meet documentation requirements.
