About The Position

The Patient Care Assistant works under the direction of licensed personnel to support patients with activities of daily living, including bathing, dressing, eating, and toileting. The position also involves taking and documenting vital signs and other measurements, helping patients reposition and move between a bed and wheelchair, and reporting patient health concerns to nurses. This is an onsite, regular position at The Brigham and Women's Hospital, Inc., located at 75 Francis Street, with 36 scheduled hours per week and a night shift.

Requirements

• Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions.
• Knowledge of medical terminology.
• Strong patient/customer service skills.
• Ability to lift up to 35 pounds.
• Proficient computer skills for working with electronic medical records.

Nice To Haves

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• One to two years of experience working in patient care or elder care.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• Nationally certified Medical Assistant credential.
• Massachusetts Emergency Medical Technician – Paramedic credential.
• New Hampshire Licensed Nursing Assistant credential.

Responsibilities

• Accurately obtain vital signs, weights, heights, intakes, and outputs within established time frames or as requested.
• Complete required documentation in the medical record.
• Interact effectively with patients and their families.
• Assist patients with basic hygiene, including bathing, dressing, toileting, and eating.
• Help patients turn and reposition in bed and move between the bed and a wheelchair.
• Listen to patients' health concerns and report them to nurses.
