About The Position

Works under the supervision of a Registered Nurse, Nurse Manager/Director in personal care of patients and their environment. Performs specified functions and tasks where there is validated competency, including simple wound care, EKGs, peripheral IV removal, basic phlebotomy, and extremity splinting. The Emergency Department will provide education and validate competency for skills specific to the job description. This position requires the ability to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patient served in the assigned unit, understanding principles of growth and development over the life span. Promotes and maintains a safe work environment for staff and customers, incorporating national patient safety initiatives.

Requirements

  • Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), VA Department of Health Professions EMT-B (Basic) License in VA, or Graduate of a Medical Assistant Program (with educational proof), or Currently enrolled in an LPN/RN nursing program with 80 clinical hours completed.
  • CPR/BLS Certification - American Heart Association/American Red Cross/American Safety and Health Institute (AHA/ARC) - REQUIRED

Nice To Haves

  • 1 year Prior health care experience in a hospital setting

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates understanding and knowledge of technology systems for patient data collection into EMR.
  • Demonstrates ability to follow the plan of care, including performing treatments and procedures competently/independently under the direction of an RN. This may include vital signs, ice application, compresses, EKGs, drawing blood, and specimen collection.
  • Accurately completes all required clinical and quality documentation consistently per RHS standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Demonstrates accountability for ensuring availability of necessary resources (equipment, instruments, supplies) for positive patient outcomes.
  • Maintains a clean, safe, and orderly work/patient environment by cleaning workstations/areas, equipment, stocking supplies, and storing equipment properly.
  • Demonstrates ability to take direction from the charge nurse to help admit, discharge, or transfer patients in a timely and efficient manner.
