About The Position

The Patient Care Assistant (PCA) works under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN) in a fast-paced inpatient department at Loma Linda University Medical Center (LLUMC), a Magnet Recognized large tertiary academic medical center. This role involves providing direct and indirect age-specific and developmentally appropriate patient care, seeking clarification of duties as needed, and functioning within the scope of practice for unlicensed assistive personnel. The PCA is expected to adhere to policies, procedures, techniques, and guidelines, and meet department-specific qualifications and competencies. The position requires exhibiting behaviors that foster a highly motivated and high-performance team, demonstrating professionalism, and being flexible with assignments. Key aspects include utilizing effective interpersonal skills for excellent customer service, following best practices to maintain high patient and family satisfaction, and contributing to a cooperative and culturally diverse work environment. The PCA will also perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Successful completion of an approved Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) program or successful completion of a Medical Assisting (MA) program, or completion of School of Nursing Fundamentals.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association.
  • Demonstrates competencies in fundamentals of patient care.
  • Knowledge of scope of practice for unlicensed healthcare team members.
  • Exhibits strong customer service skills.
  • Able to read, write legibly and speak in English with professional quality.
  • Able to use computer, printer and software programs necessary to the position, e.g., Word, Outlook, organization electronic medical record.
  • Able to perform basic non-licensed patient care activities.
  • Able to comprehend and follow-through with instructions.
  • Able to relate and communicate positively, effectively and professionally with others.
  • Able to be assertive and consistent in following and enforcing policies.
  • Able to work calmly and respond courteously when under pressure.

  • Able to discern temperature variances through touch.

Nice To Haves

  • Minimum six months nursing assistant or MA experience preferred.
  • Spanish speaking preferred.
