About The Position

The Patient Care Assistant (PCA) is a high energy individual responsible for initial medical patient contact (otherwise known as rooming) in the Clinic. The PCA will be trained, and competency tested in: obtaining patient vital signs, collecting medical, social, and family history, assisting LPN/CMA with appropriate tasks, and administering and/or reviewing questionnaires needed for the visit. The PCA will assist LPN/CMAs in ordering medical and office supplies, checking outdates, preparing exam rooms, cleaning exam rooms, transporting specimens to the lab, quality improvement initiatives, and other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Willingness to learn how to obtain manual vital signs, basic medical terminology and medication names, EHR (electronic health record) operations, appointment scheduling, and an understanding of the questionnaires used in the Clinic setting
  • Current CPR certification or willing to obtain CPR certification prior to starting
  • Must demonstrate effective communication skills with patients, nurses, and medical providers
  • Must have excellent time management skills and be able to move from one task to the next
  • Ability to communicate (verbal and written) effectively and professionally with clients of all ages, co-workers, practitioners and administration

  • Computer skills and knowledge of an EMR

Nice To Haves

  • Certification in a Nursing Assistant program recommended but not required
  • Two years' experience in a healthcare environment is preferred but not required
