About The Position

The Patient Care Assistant performs routine and specialized patient care activities as assigned, under the direction and supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN). Care incorporates Family Centered Care, is delivered cost-effectively, and is developmentally and age-appropriate for the patient population. The position is part-time and based at Texas Children’s Hospital West Campus in Houston, Texas. Successful candidates must undergo respiratory fit testing in compliance with occupational health and safety standards.

Requirements

High school diploma or GED.
In addition to a high school diploma or GED, meet at least one of the following: completion of a formal nursing assistant educational program or certification (such as a Certified Nurse Assistant, Medical Assistant, or similar clinical education program); current enrollment in a BSN degree program with one clinical rotation completed by hire; or one year of direct patient care experience.
Work effectively in a fast-paced setting.

Responsibilities

Assist with collecting and documenting patient and family data.
Obtain and document vital signs without using continuous physiologic monitors, and notify a professional of abnormal findings.
Provide high-quality, cost-effective patient care in collaboration with the RN and patient/family.
Collaborate professionally with multiple RNs to prioritize workload based on patient and family needs.
Assist in identifying patient and family responses to care.
Provide input to the RN on development and ongoing modification of the plan of care.
Maintain accountability for personal development and participate in developing others.
Demonstrate commitment to the team, flexibility, professional interpersonal and communication skills, and customer service skills.
Participate in achieving hospital and unit goals.
Undergo respiratory fit testing as required for workplace safety.
