About The Position

Riverside Smithfield Hospital, opening in early 2026, is a new facility located on a 27-acre medical campus at 19339 Benn’s Grant Boulevard in Smithfield, Virginia. This 200,000-square-foot, three-story hospital offers modern facilities and comprehensive medical services, including an Emergency Department, Diagnostic Imaging Services, 38 Medical/Surgical beds, 12 Intensive Care Unit (ICU) beds, and 4 Operating Rooms. The hospital aims to provide high-quality healthcare to Isle of Wight County residents. This role is part of an exciting opportunity to shape the future of healthcare in Smithfield, delivering compassionate, patient-centered care in a state-of-the-art environment.

Requirements

  • CPR/BLS Certification - American Heart Association/American Red Cross/American Safety and Health Institute (AHA/ARC) Upon Hire
  • Certified Nurse Aid (CNA) - Virginia Department of Health Professions (VDHP) Upon Hire
  • In lieu of CNA certification, will accept EMT-B (Basic) from the Virginia Department of Health Professions or National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians, or Certified or Registered Medical Assistant (CMA/RMA), or Medical Assistant Program Graduate, or Currently enrolled in LPN or RN diploma or degree program with at least 80 clinical hours completed, or completed on-the-job training in phlebotomy and splinting.

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • 1 year Prior health care experience in hospital setting

Responsibilities

  • Works under the supervision of a Registered Nurse, Nurse Manager/Director in personal care of patients and their environment.
  • Performs specified functions and tasks where there is validated competency, including simple wound care, EKGs, peripheral INT removal, basic phlebotomy, and extremity splinting.
  • Demonstrates understanding and knowledge of technology systems for patient data collection into EMR.
  • Demonstrates the ability to follow a plan of care, including performing treatments and procedures competently and independently under the direction of an RN.
  • Accurately completes all required clinical and quality documentation consistently per RHS standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Demonstrates accountability for ensuring the availability of necessary resources (equipment, instruments, supplies) for positive patient outcomes.
  • Maintains a clean, safe, and orderly work/patient environment by cleaning workstations/areas, equipment, stocking supplies, and placing equipment in proper storage areas.
  • Demonstrates the ability to take direction from the charge nurse to help admit, discharge, or transfer patients in a timely and efficient manner.
