The Patient Care Assistant will provide approved care of assigned patients and assist in the implementation of interventions under the supervision of an RN. This role involves supervising and assisting patients with activities of daily living, offering assistance to co-workers after completion of own duties, and using crisis control techniques to assist in de-escalation of patients and visitors. The Patient Care Assistant will also assist with patient transport as requested and may assist with 1 on 1 patient observation as needed. Demonstrating Cincinnati Children's CARES behaviors is essential in all interactions with patients, families, visitors, and co-workers, by actively participating as a frontline example of extraordinary customer service and satisfaction. This role requires reporting the present status or changes in patient condition on an ongoing basis and in change of shift summaries, completing timely documentation of information in the patient medical record, and seeking information and guidance when needed. The Patient Care Assistant will ensure that work areas are organized and present a safe, accessible, effective, and efficient environment for employees, patients, and families, and will comply with Infection Control policies and procedures, and adhere to safety procedures appropriate to children's ages and development levels. Administrative support includes responding to communication system/patient alarms with a sense of urgency, answering the telephone in accordance with CCHMC telephone etiquette, assembling charts, ordering patient supplies, and stocking clerical supplies. The role may also assist in the orientation and training of new employees.
