About The Position

North Alabama Medical Center is seeking a Patient Care Assistant (PCA) for its Medical-Surgical Unit. The unit provides patient-centered care to a diverse population, including vascular, hemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis, chemotherapy, and GIP hospice patients. The role supports nursing care and department operations while helping provide safe, compassionate, high-quality care. The schedule is full-time, three 12-hour day shifts from 6:45 a.m. to 7:15 p.m., with every other weekend and rotating holiday coverage. Self-scheduling is available.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Current BLS certification; certification may be obtained after hire.
• Eagerness to learn and motivation to work in a critical care environment.

Nice To Haves

• PCA/DCA, SRNA, or EMT experience.
• Handle with Care.

Responsibilities

• Perform basic patient care as delegated by an RN, including monitoring vital signs, possible blood glucose measurements, and accurately recording intake and output.
• Assist patients with activities of daily living, including bathing, grooming, eating, toileting, and ambulation.
• Observe and promptly report abnormal physical, mental, or emotional findings to nursing staff.
• Maintain clean, safe, and well-stocked patient rooms and common areas.
• Manage the tech desk and support nursing and physician staff and overall department throughput.
• Document care and activities according to unit standards.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
• Participate in performance improvement and required education.
