The Patient Care Assistant (PCA) in Acute Care Cardiology will provide approved care for assigned patients and assist in the implementation of interventions under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN). This role involves supervising and assisting patients with activities of daily living, offering assistance to co-workers after completing own duties, using crisis control techniques, and assisting in the de-escalation of patients and visitors. The PCA will also assist with patient transport as requested and may perform 1 on 1 patient observation as needed. Demonstrating Cincinnati Children's CARES behaviors is essential in all interactions, ensuring extraordinary customer service and satisfaction. The role requires ongoing reporting of patient status or changes, timely documentation in the patient medical record, and seeking information and guidance when needed. The PCA will also ensure that work areas are organized and present a safe, accessible, effective, and efficient environment for employees, patients, and families, complying with Infection Control policies and procedures and adhering to safety procedures appropriate to children's ages and developmental levels. Additionally, the PCA will respond to communication systems/patient alarms with urgency, answer telephones according to etiquette, assemble charts, order patient supplies, and may assist in the orientation and training of new employees.
