Patient Care Assistant - Med/Surg Hem/Onc - PCA
About The Position
Mayo Clinic is seeking a Patient Care Assistant (PCA) to join their Inpatient Medical Surgical Hematology Oncology Unit in Arizona. The PCA will assist nursing staff with delegated tasks of direct and indirect patient care under the supervision of a registered nurse. This role requires the incumbent to demonstrate knowledge of growth and development principles and interpret age-specific patient needs. The PCA will communicate patient status and delegated task information. The unit specializes in Acute Leukemia and Lymphoma, Multiple Myeloma, Medical Oncology, Clinical Trials, and Overflow BMT.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required upon hire and must be valid for 90 days or greater from start date.
- Maintains Basic Life Support (BLS) competency.
Nice To Haves
- Completion of Block 1 in Nursing OR Medical Assistant (MA) OR Nursing Assistant (NA) OR 6 months of experience in the healthcare setting within the last year.
Responsibilities
- Assists nursing staff with delegated tasks of direct and indirect patient care.
- Supports and complements nursing practice under the supervision of a registered nurse.
- Carries out designated skills within the functions of a certified nursing assistant, as defined by the Arizona State Board of Nursing.
- Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development through the life span.
- Appropriately interprets information relative to the patient's age-specific needs.
- Communicates data reflective of the patient's status and delegated tasks/functions.
