About The Position

White 8 is seeking a highly motivated and dedicated Patient Care Assistant I (PCA) to join their team. This individual will provide coverage on the Evening and Night schedules, including weekends and scheduled holidays. White 8 is a 27-bed adult general medicine inpatient unit located in Boston, MA, serving patients with acute and complex medical problems from diverse backgrounds. Patients are typically admitted from the Emergency Department or transferred from intensive care units.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent preferred
  • Basic Life Support [BLS] Certified
  • Medical Assistant [National Certification]
  • Nursing Assistant/Patient Care Technician [National Certification]
  • Experience working in patient care/elder care 0-1 year preferred
  • Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Strong patient/customer service skills.
  • Ability to lift up to 35 pounds.
  • Proficient in computer skills to work efficiently with electronic medical records.

Responsibilities

  • Performs patient care-related duties and clinical functions as assigned, including performing and documenting point of care, vital signs, EKGs, bathing and other sanitary needs of patients, transferring and assisting with ambulation of patients, 1:1 patient observation for safety purposes, and phlebotomy.
  • Assists RNs and physicians with other exams and treatments as required.
  • Completes all documentation such as height, weight, intake of fluids and food, output of urine/stool/vomit/other drainage, and blood glucose results in the Electronic Health Record (EHR).
  • Assists patients with food tray setup, eating, and feeding, as needed.
  • Ensures that patient rooms are stocked, equipped, and cleaned appropriately.
  • Retrieves equipment from other areas, sets up equipment, cleans equipment between patient use, and reports malfunctioning equipment.
  • Assists with admitting and discharging patients.
  • Facilitates orientation of new PCA team members as directed.
  • Interacts with patients, visitors, and other care team members effectively.
  • Communicates with nursing staff effectively and in a timely manner regarding issues related to patient care and condition.
