The Patient and Equipment Transporter is responsible for lifting and transporting patients to and from wheelchairs, stretchers, or beds, ensuring proper positioning and securing using good body mechanics. This role also involves ensuring patient comfort, following precaution signs, and transporting patients to their destinations. Additionally, the transporter may be responsible for moving patient belongings, specimens, carts, wheelchairs, and other equipment. They must maintain communication with clinical staff regarding patient condition changes or equipment issues, verify patient identification, and track assignments using electronic software. The role includes collecting and returning equipment, disinfecting and inspecting transport equipment, and reporting any necessary repairs. Maintaining patient confidentiality is crucial. The transporter may also collect patient equipment from soiled utility rooms and deliver patient medication (excluding controlled substances).
