The Patient and Equipment Transporter is responsible for lifting and transporting patients to and from wheelchairs, stretchers, or beds, ensuring proper positioning and securing using good body mechanics. This role focuses on patient comfort, safety, and timely transport to their destinations. The transporter also handles the movement of patient belongings, specimens, carts, wheelchairs, and other equipment. They are crucial in maintaining patient safety by following precaution signs, contacting clinical staff about patient condition changes or equipment issues, and verifying patient identification. Additionally, the transporter uses electronic software to track assignments and is responsible for collecting, returning, disinfecting, and inspecting transport equipment, reporting any necessary repairs. Maintaining patient confidentiality is paramount. Some roles may involve collecting patient equipment from soiled utility rooms or picking up and delivering patient medication (excluding controlled substances).
