About The Position

Altruix is a high-touch pharmacy dedicated to serving behavioral health and intellectual and developmental disability populations. Through our pharmacy expertise, Medherent technology, and specialized packaging, we promote medication adherence and improve patient outcomes. Our services help clients take medications as prescribed while reducing administrative burden for providers. We are seeking a Patient Accounts Specialist to join our Revenue Cycle Management (RCM) team. This hybrid position is based out of our Hunt Valley, Maryland office and reports directly to the Director of Billing & Collections. In this role, you'll serve as a primary point of contact for patients, responsible parties, and pharmacy staff regarding billing inquiries, patient account balances, payment arrangements, and insurance-related questions. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, customer-focused, and thrives in a fast-paced healthcare environment while maintaining exceptional service and professionalism. This is a hybrid position based out of our Hunt Valley, MD office. Candidates must be able to work onsite as required based on business needs.

Requirements

  • Associate degree required; Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in healthcare billing, collections, customer service, or revenue cycle management.
  • Strong customer service and communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, Word).
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to communicate professionally with patients, providers, and internal teams.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in a long-term care pharmacy or healthcare environment.
  • Knowledge of pharmacy billing and patient collections.
  • Experience with Medicare, Medicaid, commercial insurance, PBMs, coordination of benefits, copays, and deductibles.
  • Familiarity with pharmacy management systems, preferably SuiteRx.
  • Experience posting payments and maintaining patient accounts within healthcare billing systems.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor and follow up on outstanding patient account balances.
  • Contact patients and responsible parties regarding overdue balances by phone, email, and written correspondence.
  • Establish and manage patient payment plans.
  • Document collection activities and account notes accurately.
  • Escalate delinquent or complex accounts when appropriate.
  • Assist in reducing bad debt through proactive account management.
  • Serve as a primary point of contact for patient billing questions and concerns.
  • Respond to incoming calls and emails regarding invoices, insurance billing, payments, and account balances.
  • Partner with pharmacy teams to resolve billing discrepancies and insurance issues.
  • Escalate complex billing concerns while maintaining clear communication with patients and pharmacy staff.
  • Deliver outstanding customer service to internal and external customers.
  • Support departmental KPI goals and revenue cycle performance initiatives.
  • Post patient payments, adjustments, and write-offs accurately.
  • Maintain patient account information and documentation.
  • Research and resolve payment application issues.
  • Reconcile payment activity and supporting documentation.
  • Ensure account records remain accurate and up to date.
  • Work within pharmacy management, billing, and financial systems.
  • Maintain detailed documentation of account activity.
  • Assist with invoicing, patient statements, and additional billing responsibilities.
  • Support cash conversion, collections, and DSO initiatives.
  • Maintain compliance with company policies and healthcare regulations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
