About The Position

Lake Huron Medical Center is a 139-bed community hospital that provides a wide range of inpatient and outpatient health care services to residents of St. Clair and Sanilac counties. As a Patient Account Registrar, this position involves interviewing patients or their representatives to obtain patient demographics and secure insurance information, eligibility, benefits, and authorizations as applicable. The role requires working closely with all facets of the Admitting department, including PBX operator function and reception areas. The registrar must be able to operate a computer to input and retrieve data and communicate effectively with diverse patient populations, utilizing age-specific techniques from neonatal to geriatrics. Maintaining proficiency in medical terminology is also required, and the position may involve special projects or other assignments to be completed within a specified timeframe. Requirements

  • Effective written and verbal communication skills

  • Analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Customer Services experience required
  • High School Graduate or GED Equivalent Required (effective 4/1/14 for all new hires)

Nice To Haves

  • Previous hospital experience as an admissions representative preferred
  • Knowledge of medical terminology preferred

Responsibilities

  • Interview the patient or his/her representative to obtain patient demographics
