About The Position

UCI Health is a large academic health system in California, part of the University of California, Irvine. It includes multiple hospitals and a network of ambulatory care centers. As Orange County's only academic health system, it features specialized centers like a National Cancer Institute-designated comprehensive cancer center and a Level I adult and Level II pediatric trauma center. Requirements

  • Skill, knowledge, and ability essential to the successful performance of assigned duties.
  • Customer service skills appropriate to the job.
  • Minimum one (1) year recent experience (within past two (2) years) registering patients in a hospital or clinic, working as a Medical Assistant, or working in medical billing.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Excellent organizational and planning skills and ability to manage multiple activities and varied deadlines.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills to supervise and motivate staff.
  • Demonstrated experience and thorough working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and database applications.
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret health plan benefit packages and make benefit determinations.
  • Ability to travel to off-site clinics.
  • Ability to maintain a work pace appropriate to the workload.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships across the Health System.
  • Ability to act independently to solve problems and develop recommendations for approval.
  • Must be able to provide proof of work authorization.

Nice To Haves

  • Strong knowledge of UCI and outside payor authorization and scheduling policies and processes.
  • Knowledge of University and medical center organizations, policies, procedures, and forms.
  • Knowledge of Joint Commission requirements.
  • Knowledge of ICD-9 and CPT / HCPCS Medical Coding.
  • Bilingual skills in English and Spanish and/or Vietnamese.

Responsibilities

  • Administration, development, and staffing of the clinic’s registration/reception.
  • Interviewing, hiring, disciplinary actions, and terminations in alignment with UCI policies and procedures.
  • Training, orientation, and in-services for front office staff.
  • Monitoring and directing the collection of productivity and other statistical information.
  • Coordinating payroll, computer training, quality assurance, and human resources issues for staff.
  • Providing oversight for authorization and surgery scheduling.
  • Providing additional help as needed.
