About The Position

This role involves supervising patient access services, integrating them with the hospital's primary functions. The supervisor is responsible for implementing policies and procedures, assessing and improving department performance, and ensuring staff are adequately trained. Key aspects include maintaining optimal staffing, monitoring quality and productivity, and managing the department's budget. The position also emphasizes promoting excellent customer service, collaborating with various departments and teams to ensure patients are offered all available financial programs, and reviewing the quality of patient registration documents. The supervisor oversees insurance benefit verification, estimation of self-pay amounts, and collection of registration materials, while actively seeking process improvements and cost controls without compromising patient safety or care quality. Adherence to all personnel and department policies is expected.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Health Administration, Business, or Accounting; or At least five (5) years prior management experience in a similar complimentary position in the healthcare industry
  • Possesses five years of progressively responsible supervisory/management experience in a patient access or revenue cycle setting
  • Thoroughly understands Federal/State regulations including Red Flag Rules, HIPAA privacy and security standards, EMTALA, CMS/Medicare/Medicaid billing regulations, and all payor requirements
  • Possesses excellent computer skills
  • Exhibits Meditech proficiency
  • Demonstrates proficiency with PC-based programs such as Excel, Word, etc.
  • Strives for customer satisfaction when responding to all patient/customer inquires (internal customers)
  • Possesses knowledge of business office operations and equipment
  • Works independently with little supervision
  • Maintains concentration
  • Demonstrates effective communication and organizational skills

  • Integrates Patient Access services with the hospital’s primary functions
  • Implements policies and procedures that guide or support service
  • Assesses and improves department performance
  • Ensures orientation and continuing education of all staff with patient access responsibilities
  • Provides leadership and support to Patient Access staff
  • Always projects a positive hospital image
  • Adheres to all aspects of the Leadership Bundle
  • Maintains optimal staffing model based on volumes
  • Monitors quality and productivity
  • Develops and maintains budget
  • Promotes excellent customer service
  • Strives to meet and exceed the needs of customers, providers, patients, and coworkers
  • Maintains active membership on the Patient Experience Team
  • Works closely with nursing and ancillary departments in an effort to maintain a teamwork approach
  • Works in collaboration with Revenue Cycle and Financial Counseling Teams to ensure all available financial programs are offered to patients
  • Reviews the quality of patient registration documents daily
  • Supervises verification of insurance benefits, estimates of self-pay amounts due, and collection of registration material
  • Actively seeks ways to improve processes and control costs without compromising patient safety or the quality of care delivered
  • Ensures all personnel and department policies are followed
