This role involves providing exceptional customer service to patients, ensuring a positive first impression of Northwestern Medicine. Responsibilities include collecting patient demographic information, interacting with various hospital departments and physician offices to schedule appointments, performing medical necessity checks, informing patients of financial account issues, and completing out-of-pocket estimations. The specialist will also provide training, manage their work schedule efficiently, and participate in Quality Assurance reviews. Cross-training between various departments will occur to ensure coverage. The role requires utilizing department and hospital policies and procedures, avoiding financial or safety risks for patients, and performing other duties as assigned. Communication and collaboration are key, involving informing patients about referrals, collecting authorization numbers, and fostering a professional environment for communication across units. The specialist will also communicate customer satisfaction issues and demonstrate teamwork. Technology utilization includes multiple online order retrieval systems, verifying insurance eligibility and benefit levels through online tools or phone, and accurately noting information in Epic. The role requires efficient use of all computer applications and running real-time eligibility checks. Efficiency, process improvement, and business growth are also important, involving proactive prevention of patient visit issues, understanding data requirements for registration, monitoring quality metrics, and suggesting improvements to enhance customer service and operational efficiency. The specialist will act as a training resource for new staff and a resource for coworkers, sharing process and workflow information, and adapting to changing schedules and healthcare policies.
