The Patient Access Specialist reflects the mission, vision, and values of NMHC, adheres to the organizations Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance Program, and complies with all relevant policies, procedures, guidelines and all other regulatory and accreditation standards. This role is responsible for consistently practicing the Patients First philosophy and adhering to high standards of customer service, including setting an example for peers and fostering a team atmosphere. The specialist will respond to questions and concerns, and forward or direct extraordinary issues to the Team Lead or Operations Coordinator. Maintaining patient confidentiality per HIPAA regulations is crucial. The role involves providing exceptional customer service to patients, ensuring a positive first impression of Northwestern Medicine, and exceeding consumer requests while alerting management to any issues or concerns requiring escalation. Key duties include correctly identifying and collecting patient demographic information, interacting with various hospital departments and physician offices to schedule appointments and guide patients through NMHC systems, performing medical necessity checks, communicating financial account issues to patients, and completing out-of-pocket estimations. The specialist will also provide training and education as needed, manage their work schedule efficiently, and complete other assigned duties. Cross-training between departments will occur to ensure coverage, and participation in Quality Assurance reviews is required to maintain data integrity. Effective service recovery skills are necessary to resolve problems, and all tasks must be completed in accordance with departmental and hospital policies and compliance requirements, ensuring patients are not put at financial or safety risk.
