The Patient Access Specialist is responsible for performing duties associated with Scheduling, Pre-registration, Registration, Insurance Verification, and Financial Counseling. This role involves accurately scheduling patients, obtaining necessary documents, promoting good public relations, pre-registering scheduled accounts, creating accurate registration records, securing signatures and financial information, identifying and collecting patient balances, and screening for payer medical necessity requirements and benefit eligibility. The specialist will also coordinate admission reservations and bed placement with nursing, obtain insurance eligibility, benefits, authorizations, pre-certifications, and referrals, update demographic and insurance information, initiate collection processes, establish financial arrangements, and act as the primary documentation source for access and billing staff. Additionally, the role requires interacting in a customer-focused and compassionate manner to ensure patient needs are met and they understand the hospital's financial policies.
