The Patient Access Specialist I functions as part of the clinical care team and is responsible for delivery of excellent customer service and accurately and efficiently performing patient registration, exit and appointment scheduling. Requirements

Responsibilities

  • Ensure all patients and visitors feel warmly welcomed at all Union Community Care sites and set the tone for a superb care experience.
  • Provide superior telephone customer service for patients seeking access or assistance, potentially including rotation through Call Cloud.
  • Verify all patient demographic and insurance information and apply predetermined sliding fee discounts.
  • Verify insurance coverage (maintaining current passwords for PROMISe, Navinet, Department of Public Welfare, and other insurances).
  • Answer incoming phone calls professionally and knowledgeably about Union Community Care access and services.
  • Fully understand and apply the Sliding Fee Discount Policy and Procedures, offering it to all patients and applying it in Athena.
  • Work appointment buckets, including scheduling and rescheduling, checking the Portal Bucket for requests, and contacting patients to reschedule cancelled appointments.
  • Monitor the Solution Reach appointment communication platform to cancel, schedule, and change appointments as requested by patients.
  • Collect applicable fees or co-payments at the time of registration, prior to the scheduled visit.
  • Perform patient check-in, ensuring consents are current, patient accounts are up-to-date, and demographic data is accurate in the e-HR.
  • Prepare daily batch reports and reconcile cash drawers using the registration collection closing procedure.
  • Perform daily importing and scanning of necessary paperwork and forms, labeling and routing documents to the appropriate recipient in Athena, and deleting duplicate documents and cover sheets.
  • Perform patient exit, scheduling necessary follow-up appointments and providing patients with orders and care instructions.
  • Assist with other team duties such as cleaning rooms, printing labels, working follow-up buckets, reviewing team buckets, and handling tasks appropriate for medical reception, including labeling and routing documents.
  • Perform other work-related duties as assigned.
