About The Position

This role involves welcoming patients and visitors, verifying identification, and accurately assigning medical records. The representative will collect and verify patient demographics, insurance eligibility, and financial responsibility, entering this information into the hospital computer system. They will also interview patients at bedside as needed, educate them on financial responsibilities, identify self-pay patients, and collect residuals. The position requires consistent knowledge and accurate use of hospital policies, department SOPs, supporting tools, software, and websites. Ensuring all hospital and regulatory requirements are met, including consents, signatures, patient rights, HIPAA, and ABNs, is crucial. The role also involves meeting performance standards for registration quality, collections, confidentiality, and customer service, while working effectively with colleagues and demonstrating respect for diversity and effective communication.

Responsibilities

  • Welcome patients, visitors and escort patients as necessary and consistent with customer service guidelines.
  • Verify patient's identification and accurately assign/identify medical records.
  • Collect and verify all patient demographics, insurance eligibility, financial responsibility and enter it into the hospital computer system(s) in a timely manner to facilitate patient flow.
  • Interview patients at bedside as needed to facilitate timely and effective solutions.
  • Educate patients on financial responsibilities; identify self-pay patients and potential solutions. Identify and collect all residuals via supporting tools and/or payment plans.
  • Ensure consistent knowledge and accurate use and execution of the hospital policies and department's SOP (standard operating procedures), supporting tools, software and websites.
  • Ensure all hospital and regulatory requirements are met (including but not limited to consents/signatures, distribution of patient rights, health care proxies, HIPAA, ABN's, etc.).
  • Meet performance standards established by Patient Access and Hospital leadership, including but not limited to registration quality, collections, confidentiality and customer service.
  • Work effectively with fellow co-workers within Patient Access and all other hospital departments.
  • Demonstrate respect and regard for the dignity of all patients, families, visitors, and fellow employees to ensure a professional, responsible, and courteous environment.
  • Recognize and respect cultural diversity for all customers (internal and external).
