About The Position

This full-time position is located in Waterloo, working the day shift. The purpose of this role is to gather patient demographic and financial information, enter it into the computer system, assign patient rooms, prepare necessary documentation, and transport or escort patients to their assigned areas. The Patient Access Representative will also obtain appropriate signatures, answer the telephone, manage bed assignments, order stat cleans, and communicate effectively with the house supervisor. They will inform patients of hospital regulations, secure armbands, and make determinations regarding the need for a hospital-issued Advance Beneficiary Notice (ABN waiver). The role involves meeting and greeting patients, scanning necessary documents such as physician orders, driver's licenses, insurance cards, and consents, and pre-registering all scheduled tests. Adherence to all safety, infection control, and colleague health policies and procedures, as well as HIPAA and EMTALA regulations, is required. The Patient Access team is located at the Women's and Outpatient area, serving patients from Surgery, Outpatient Clinic, Wound Clinic, and Breast Clinic.

Requirements

  • Ability to read, write, and understand the English language.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with patients, visitors, staff, and physicians.
  • Strong computer skills, including Windows experience.
  • Experience with database software and mainframe information systems.
  • Ability to convey a positive image and communicate tactfully and professionally with staff, patients, and the public.
  • Ability to work with diverse groups of people.
  • Ability to work under pressure.

Nice To Haves

  • Completion of a Medical Secretary program or other general office training.
  • One year of medical office experience (scheduling, insurance, or registration).
  • Hospital experience and/or medical terminology.

Responsibilities

  • Adheres to all safety, infection control and colleague health policies and procedures.
  • Follows HIPAA, and EMTALA regulations per hospital policy.
