About The Position

Adventist Health Bakersfield, a 254-bed acute care hospital with 20 primary and specialty care medical offices, has been providing healthcare services since 1910. Located in Bakersfield, California, the organization is part of Adventist Health, a faith-based, nonprofit, integrated health system serving over 100 communities on the West Coast and Hawaii. The Patient Access Representative is responsible for the timely and accurate registration of patients. This role involves interviewing patients for account information, verifying insurance, calculating and collecting patient liability, and obtaining necessary treatment signatures. The representative also answers patient questions, explains policies, checks and attaches physician orders to ensure correct tests, prints and collates paperwork, and escorts patients or refers them to escorts.

Requirements

Receive all required vaccinations as a condition of employment and annually thereafter, where applicable.

Associate’s/Technical Degree or equivalent combination of education/related experience

Responsibilities

Ensure timely and accurate patient registration.
Interview patients for pertinent account information.
Verify insurance and calculate and collect patient liability amounts.
Obtain all necessary signatures for treatment.
Answer patient questions and clearly explain policies.
Check for physician orders and attach them to the patient medical record to ensure appropriate tests are received.
Print and collate necessary paperwork for distribution to unit/department.
Escort patients to their area or refer them to an available escort.
Choose the correct health plan and accurately research to ensure accuracy when verifying insurance.
Enter all authorization information accurately as needed.
Follow guidelines and instructions from senior staff.
Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
