Geisinger’s Patient Access Representatives (PARs) are excellent communicators who handle patient inquiries every day — all while maintaining empathy, professionalism and providing a positive patient experience. The role is responsible for front line support to the department, coordinating and performing front line office activities in an effective and efficient manner. This includes greeting and registering incoming patients, supporting the patient check out process, and scheduling future appointments as applicable. PARs are responsible for accurately verifying demographics, ensuring all check-in procedures are completed, and monitoring patient wait times, communicating changes to the patient as necessary. They must also read and interpret insurance responses, understand general guidelines and insurance rank requirements to properly assign primary, secondary, and tertiary insurance per encounter, and ensure patients receive necessary disclosure and privacy information, obtaining legal and financial signatures. Additionally, PARs communicate financial obligations to patients, collect fees at time of service, and complete necessary regulatory forms. They complete patient visits by scheduling follow-up appointments, process multi-channel messages related to patient and/or physician requests, and notify patients of anticipated financial responsibility. The role also involves cash posting, maintaining high regard for confidentiality, performing medical record maintenance and releases, assisting with referrals and pre-certifications, and properly utilizing patient recall and reschedule lists. Work is typically performed in an office environment, and the employee is accountable for satisfying all job-specific obligations and complying with all organization policies and procedures.
