About The Position

Sentara Rockingham Memorial Hospital is hiring Patient Access Representatives for Full Time Day & Evening shifts in the ED and Outpatient. The Patient Access Rep is responsible for all aspects of the patient registration process, including: verifying patient identity and selecting the correct patient record, reviewing schedules and physician orders to register the patient for the appropriate service, scanning important documents such as insurance cards, ID's, Living Wills, and POAs, and verifying and entering the patient's demographic and insurance information in the electronic health record. They will explain and complete complex regulatory and compliance documents and adhere to all applicable privacy and compliance standards. They will explain and collect co-payments, deposits and outstanding balances, and perform transactions securely. The role involves greeting patients and families, answering questions, and ensuring patients arrive to the appropriate service area at the right time. Duties may also include scheduling, pre-admission and discharge tasks, and providing supervision and patient information updates to families in waiting rooms. Extensive training is provided for entry-level candidates, with opportunities for advancement.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent (Required)
  • 2 years of Customer Service OR Data Entry experience (Required)
  • Demonstrated proficiency in computer keyboarding skills (Required)

Nice To Haves

  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree can be considered in lieu of two years of experience
  • Knowledge of third party payers, ICD-9/ CPT coding and medical terminology (Preferred)

Responsibilities

  • Verify patient identity and select the correct patient record.
  • Review schedules and physician orders to register the patient for the appropriate service.

  • Greet patients and families, answer questions, and ensure patients arrive to the appropriate service area at the right time.
  • Perform scheduling, pre-admission, and discharge duties.
  • Provide supervision and patient information updates to families in waiting rooms.
