This position provides a positive patient experience to patients and families by demonstrating strong communication and customer service skills while registering patients. The Patient Access Representative accurately searches and selects the correct patient, gathers complete and accurate demographic and insurance information, and identifies uninsured patients for referral to Medical Assistance/Charity Care evaluation. They also retrieve orders, confirm medical necessity, answer phones for outpatient visits, gather worker’s comp or auto insurance information from accident patients, collect patient out-of-pocket liability/copays, verify insurance, and confirm referrals and authorizations are on file, if required. The role involves interacting with co-workers, visitors, and other staff consistent with the values of Jefferson. Responsibilities include requesting photo ID and insurance cards, scanning copies, entering orders, confirming medical necessity, and interviewing patients to complete the Medicare Secondary Payer (MSPQ) questionnaire for all Medicare patients. The representative will use RTE (Real Time Eligibility), Phreesia or payer websites to verify insurance coverage and benefits, ensuring proper referral and authorizations are on file as needed. All activities must be completed with adherence to departmental and institutional protocols, assuring regulatory and compliance requirements are met, and achieving individual and team performance metrics. The role also involves communicating and collecting out-of-pocket liability from patients at the time of service and rotating assignments to all points of service areas within Patient Access (Outpatient Registration and Emergency Department).
