About The Position

The Patient Access Representative I is responsible for gathering patient demographic and financial information and entering it into the computer system. This role involves assigning patient rooms, preparing necessary documentation, and transporting or escorting patients to their assigned areas. The position is full-time, with rotating shifts, and is located in the Women's and Outpatient area, serving patients from Surgery, Outpatient Clinic, Wound Clinic, and Breast Clinic.

Requirements

  • Ability to read, write, and understand the English language.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with patients, visitors, staff, and physicians.
  • Strong computer skills, including Windows experience.
  • Experience with database software and mainframe information systems.
  • Ability to convey a positive image and communicate tactfully and professionally with staff, patients, and the public.
  • Ability to work with diverse groups of people.
  • Ability to work under pressure.

Nice To Haves

  • Completion of a Medical Secretary program or other general office training.
  • One year of medical office experience (scheduling, insurance, or registration).
  • Hospital experience and/or medical terminology.

Responsibilities

  • Gathers patient demographic and financial information.
  • Obtains appropriate signatures.
  • Answers telephone, manages bed assignments, orders stat cleans, and performs appropriate communication to the house supervisor.
  • Informs patients of hospital regulations, secures armbands, and obtains signatures on appropriate documents.
  • Makes determinations regarding the need for a hospital-issued Advance Beneficiary Notice (ABN waiver).
  • Assures patients are escorted/transported to their assigned area.
  • Meets and greets patients as the registration process begins.
  • Scans all needed information, including physician orders, driver's licenses, insurance cards, and consents.
  • Pre-registers all scheduled tests.
  • Adheres to all safety, infection control, and colleague health policies and procedures.
  • Follows HIPAA and EMTALA regulations per hospital policy.
