About The Position

Woman’s LSU Health Center for OBGYN is seeking a full-time Patient Access Representative. Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Two to three years of physician, clerical and/or customer service experience.
  • Experience with scheduling, referral processing, and insurance verification.
  • Excellent customer service, phone, organizational, computer, and typing skills.
  • Working knowledge of insurance companies.
  • Must be multi-task oriented.

Nice To Haves

  • Some knowledge of medical terminology is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Answers phone calls/faxes promptly and courteously, identifying self and department.
  • Responds to customer requests, forwards messages, and manages calls as needed.
  • Obtains complete insurance information, scans insurance cards, and verifies patient eligibility status.
  • Contacts patients prior to appointment if there are insurance verification issues.
  • Schedules follow-up or recurring appointments accurately and provides information and instructions to patients according to department policies and procedures.
  • Transcribes referrals/referral triage.
  • Selects proper guarantor account.
  • Distributes mail and/or deliveries to physicians according to department policy and individual requests.
  • Performs cashier duties as needed, collecting payments, issuing receipts, and making and documenting cash deposits in drop box.
  • Proficiently balances cash drawer and notifies/documents any discrepancies or missing information.
  • Scans loose reports and/or other medical records and documentation on the appropriate patient chart.
  • Performs general clerical and office responsibilities such as emailing correspondence, maintaining lobby area, faxing reports, etc.
  • Cross-trains and/or floats to other areas as directed by management.
  • Is familiar with FMLA Process and comfortable with advising patients on wait time and policy.
  • Uses Language Line effectively.
  • Serves as preceptor.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by practice manager, director and Vice President.
