About The Position

The Patient Access Registrar is responsible for the accuracy and completeness of patient registration including insurance information and coverage. The Registrar reviews, verifies and updates individual insurance policies to ensure policies are active and billing requirements are being met for claim accuracy and reimbursement. The Registrar will provide follow-up on any concerns and updates accounts as necessary and utilizes expert problem-solving skills to resolve complex problems, taking all steps necessary to ensure full resolution of issues. Weekly schedule: Monday - Friday 8am - 5pm. THIS ROLE HAS AN OPTION FOR REMOTE WORK AFTER 6 MONTHS OF SUCCESSFUL TRAINING.

Requirements

  • Excellent customer service skills and ability to resolve customer service issues and/or escalate to Manager as needed
  • Minimum of 1 year of customer service experience
  • Minimum of 6 months to 9 months of insurance registration and verification experience
  • Knowledge of medical terminology
  • Ability to read, write and speak in a clear and professional manner
  • Excellent follow through skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks, be resourceful and meet deadlines
  • Ability to adapt to changing workflows, processes and work queues
  • Ability to adapt and work in a fast-paced, changing environment
  • Ability to work independently

Nice To Haves

  • Scheduling experience preferred
  • Experience with Epic EMR system strongly preferred

Responsibilities

  • Provide exceptional customer service to all of our patients
  • Complete assigned work queue at least 2 business days ahead.
  • Urgent Medical workque inquires complete Insurance entry/verification/authorizations and missing registration items immediately
  • Interacts with patients in the ring group to proactively collect all required demographic and insurance data necessary to facilitate patient check in and registration at point of service.
  • Directs patients to Patient Accounts for payment/financial arrangements regarding outstanding balances
  • Utilizes online payer resources to retrieve Insurance verification
  • Complete, identify and resolve registration errors
  • Research and follow up on insurance eligibility problems
  • Update insurance information and system notes regarding eligibility
  • Handle all other duties as assigned by Manager/Supervisor
  • Attend all department meetings as required
  • Follow all HIPAA and Wheaton Eye guidelines regarding patient privacy
