About The Position

St. Louis Children’s Hospital is seeking a Patient Access Representative II for their Radiology department. This role is primarily remote, with training conducted at The Commons. The position involves extensive phone-based patient registration and scheduling of radiology tests. The Patient Access Representative serves as the initial point of contact for patients, requiring a high standard of customer service, compassion, and adherence to BJC's mission, vision, values, and service standards. Key responsibilities include facilitating patient entrance into BJC facilities, demonstrating high emotional intelligence, and making personal connections with patients whose experiences vary based on medical needs. The role is crucial for maximizing reimbursements and preventing denials through accurate collection of demographics and insurance information, benefit verification, and point-of-service collection. Correct patient identification in the master person index (MPI) is vital for patient safety. The team member must possess a friendly demeanor, exceptional attention to detail, and maintain knowledge of insurance carriers, Medicare guidelines, and federal, state, and accreditation agency requirements. Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Less than 2 years of experience

Responsibilities

  • Facilitate all components of the patients' entrance into any BJC facility.
  • Represent BJC with the highest standard of customer service, compassion and perform all duties in a manner consistent with our mission, vision, values, and BJC service standards.
  • Require a high level of emotional intelligence and making a personal connection.
  • Maximize the level of reimbursements and prevention of denials by accurate collection of demographics and insurance information, benefit verification and point of service collection.
  • Select the correct patient from the master person index (MPI).
  • Maintain knowledge and competence with insurance carriers, Medicare guidelines as well as federal, state, and accreditation agencies.
  • Perform hospital registration and scheduling within multiple BJC systems.
  • Assure proper patient identification, register, schedule, verify insurance, scan and retrieve documents within multiple BJC systems.
  • Validate that the order is complete, signed by the ordering provider, and the correct test is ordered.
  • Provide the patient with preparation instructions for each scheduled procedure, education on financial responsibilities and collection of applicable patient payments.
  • Understand, articulate and enforce hospital compliance with Medicare Secondary Payer (MSP), HIPAA Privacy Standards, Patient Bill of Rights and Responsibilities, Advance Directives, Consent to Treat, EMTALA, JCAHO Requirements.
  • Ensure each patient completes HIPAA acknowledgement.
  • Utilize critical thinking skills to assess and respond to a variety of situations, anticipating patients' needs and being able to respond to them.
  • Communicate in a professional, positive, and patient-focused manner with all patients, families, and co-workers whether in-person or by phone.
  • Consistently meet or exceed quality standards and serve as mentor for lesser skilled employees.
  • Work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner (safety-sensitive position).
