This role is responsible for creating the initial electronic health record, which is fundamental for all healthcare team members. It also focuses on preventing duplicate medical records to ensure patient safety and avoid billing issues. The position requires adherence to organizational mandates for positive patient identification before care delivery. Key duties include checking in and registering patients, collecting and verifying demographic and insurance information, and discussing/collecting co-pays and other patient financial responsibilities. Accurate registration is crucial for timely payment and preventing billing problems. The role also involves maintaining patient confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA, understanding various insurance plans, and knowing when to refer patients to Financial Advocates. Compliance with government regulations such as HIPAA, EMTALA, and others is essential. The role may also involve scheduling appointments, coordinating cancellations and reschedules, and providing patients with detailed information about test preparations and facility procedures. A welcoming and professional environment is to be maintained through extraordinary customer service, including greeting patients, responding to inquiries, answering telephones, and offering assistance with transportation, directions, and interpreter services. The position requires monitoring and working assigned electronic health record work queues according to departmental processes.
