This part-time position is responsible for creating the initial electronic health record, which serves as the foundation for the patient medical record used by the entire healthcare team. The role focuses on preventing duplicate medical records, ensuring patient safety by positively identifying patients, and maintaining confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA. The Patient Access Rep will check in and register patients, verify demographic and insurance information, collect co-pays, and discuss financial obligations. They will also need to understand insurance basics, identify contracted plans, and know when to refer patients to Financial Advocates. Additionally, the role requires knowledge of compliance regulations such as HIPAA, EMTALA, and others, obtaining necessary signatures, and potentially scheduling appointments, cancellations, and reschedules. A key aspect of the role is creating a welcoming environment through exceptional customer service, answering phones, and assisting patients with various needs like transportation and interpreter services. The position also involves monitoring and working electronic health record work queues.
